Description

The Wild Trout Trust (WTT) is a registered charity dedicated to the protection and survival of the iconic brown trout, a living indicator of the health of the landscape around us (www.wildtrout.org).

WTT works with a variety of stakeholder groups to further the conservation of wild trout, including NGO’s, fishing clubs, farmers, riparian owners, community groups, academia and government agencies.

A brilliant opportunity has arisen to join WTT as a Conservation Officer to provide practical advice and help in habitat management and improvement for river interests, particularly in southern England.

Interested?

You will need to be a self-starting person with significant experience in river habitat restoration project management and delivery, conservation and practical fishery management (especially for salmonid fisheries); you need to share our ethos and values. You will deliver river habitat improvement projects at a range of scales, from start to finish and offer advice and practical help to our many stakeholders, primarily in southern England. Since WTT staff are home-based, applicants need to live in, or be prepared to move into, this geographical area. You will also need to demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills (oral and written), a proven ability to work with our wide range of stakeholders and to identify and win sources of project funding. You will join an existing team of expert Conservation Officers, working especially closely with colleagues based in southern England. We are keen for you to start as soon as possible, initially on a two-year contract.

In addition to the delivery of practical conservation programmes, the post holder will also be expected to support WTT’s other Conservation Officers in their areas and to represent the Trust at certain key events, including open days, demonstration days and shows.
