Responsible for the development, maintenance and function of Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) section of the web site. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in online communications, databases, and social networking applications. This position will report to the Director of Online Communications. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for ongoing improvements to the International Coastal Cleanup section of the web site. Plans and implements social networking applications to be used by the cleanup volunteers and local coordinators. Uses the existing content management system to create and update content for the ICC site. Works with project consultants and ICC staff to plan, develop, and launch an extensive online database of marine debris data. Supports the ICC staff efforts to manage and analyze the coastal cleanup data including development of geography-based applications. Makes this data publicly available on the ICC web site. Uses the existing customer relationship management system to manage and send the Coastal Connection e-newsletter. Collaborates with peers on the online communications team. QUALIFICATIONS: College degree in Communications with related technical experience required. At least 2-5 years experience producing or developing dynamic web sites. Excellent writing and communication skills with a strong understanding of online communication trends. Experience working with a content management system required. Understanding of Web 2.0 applications and social networking solutions and how they can be applied to a volunteer program. Experience in HTML, Photoshop, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint), and Acrobat Pro. Knowledge and experience with ArcGIS 8.3 preferred. Strong understanding of how online databases integrate with front-end web sites. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Familiarity with marine conservation issues a plus.
