This project is seeking volunteers to help track toucans in a landscape of tropical forest fragments and agricultural habitats such as pasture, sugarcane, coffee, and chocolate plantations. Volunteer toucan assistants will gain valuable experience in radio telemetry, mist-netting, behavioural sampling, tropical bird identification, and GPS use. Assistants must be in good physical condition and willing to work in the field for up to 8 hours a day several days a week, often in hot and humid weather.
There is no cost to participate but volunteers must be able to cover their own lodging and living expenses. However, the cost of living at the field site is relatively inexpensive and comfortable.
Please visit the Volunteer Latin America website to find out how to request further information, including the application procedure.
