Description

Volunteers needed in a beautiful, subtropical part of rural Ecuador, in the western foothills of the Andes Mountains.  Help a small charity working for “Green Progress”, i.e. environmentally-responsible social and economic development.

Volunteers can help the one teacher in the village school, who has over 40 students.  Trained teachers are especially welcome, but even those with no experience can help with teaching art, sports, English, basic maths, etc.  There is also scope for running workshops in the afternoons, setting up clubs, developing an organic vegetable plot with the students.

The charity, CRACYP, is recognized for pioneering work in rural development and as well as teaching, you can help out with whatever projects are happening at the time.  Other opportunities might include improving safety on organic sugar cane plantations, planning new projects to process raw materials produced in the area or researching excursions for an ecotourism project.

It’s helpful if you can speak a little Spanish, but some Spanish lessons are included as part of the program so you will soon be able to communicate with the friendly people in this small agricultural village.

Opportunities available all year round for 1 to 8 weeks.  School holidays are from mid January to the end of March, but you can still volunteer at this time running holiday activities for the children.
