Description

Volunteer in a beautiful, subtropical part of ruralEcuador, in the foothills of the Andes Mountains.  Help a small charity working for “Green Progress”, i.e. environmentally-responsible social and economic development.  The charity, CRACYP, is recognized for pioneering work in rural development and you can help out with whatever environmental and social projects are happening at the time.

Volunteer work might include improving safety on organic sugar cane plantations, researching excursions and creating or mapping trails for an ecotourism project, assisting a consortium of fair-trade, organic chocolate farmers, helping in the village school, developing an organic vegetable plot with the students, or planning new projects to process raw materials produced in the area.  Volunteers will also help in a tree nursery, collecting seeds from native tree species, planting seeds, watering seedlings and keeping native tree seedlings weed-free, as well as transplanting tree seedlings into their new locations.

No experience needed, though Spanish language skills are useful.  This is a rewarding way to get off the beaten track and see a different side of life inEcuador, and a  fantastic chance to improve your Spanish.  You’ll stay in a small farming village in the beautiful sugar cane hills in the Western Andes.

Opportunities available for 1 to 8 weeks.  For more information, see http://www.progresoverde.org/volunteer_ecuador.html or email volunteer.ecuador@yahoo.co.uk quoting reference SDVolJul13
