This reserve protects rare coastal tropical dry forest and has well-maintained nature trails and viewpoints that provide opportunities to observe nature. A wide variety of flora and fauna can be found here including 72 species of birds and an estimated 23 species of mammals. Birdlife International designated the reserve as an important area for birds. The reserve offers opportunities to participate in volunteer work, research, and community development projects. These include: seed collection, inventory of flora and fauna, environmental education, reforestation, ecotourism, community development, teaching English, organic agriculture, and scientific research. There are many things to do in your spare time such as visiting mangrove ecosystems, visiting archaeological ruins, bird watching, whale-watching, snorkelling, and other adventure sports.
The project costs £225 per month which includes accommodation, all meals, internet use (Wi-Fi), water, and depending on your work, transport. Please note that this price is especially for volunteers who apply through VLA and the normal (regular) price is £315 per month.
