More information about the PEI
The Planet Earth Institute (PEI) is the natural successor to the International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE), an initiative launched for the triennium of 2007-2009 and implemented by the United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The IYPE was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly with the unanimous consent and support of all 192 Member States, and was given the task of identifying and addressing the most significant global challenges facing our planet. This vision was realised with the formulation and promotion of a number of initiatives, designed to encourage better planning and management in the sustainable use of earth materials. The PEI, in close association with UNESCO and the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (UNCSD), continues this agenda and, for the benefit of both civil society and the corporate world, works to ensure greater and more effective use of the exciting knowledge we possess about our planet. |
