This private nature reserve was created to preserve and reforest a gap between two mountainside forests. In addition to protecting the existing forest and allowing natural regrowth, thousands of native trees have been planted to turn pasture back into forest. The project offers volunteers and researchers the opportunity to learn about forest recovery and conservation through hands-on experience. Activities include research projects such as photo-monitoring and bio-monitoring (clear guidelines provided), forestry work (planting and maintaining trees), trail building and maintenance, carpentry and construction. Each volunteer is expected to propose and complete a research study during their stay (i.e. monitoring a particular tree species, flora identification, wildlife observation, etc).
Volunteers make a one-off donation of £30 which goes towards planting trees, research expenses, and two complementary Spanish lessons. The cost of living is low and volunteers have the option of staying on-site, living with local families, or in a nearby B&B.
