Training Institute Director for Asia
Join an entrepreneurial and mission driven nonprofit organization established to build the quality and capacity of people around the world working on climate change and greenhouse gas management.
The Greenhouse Gas Management Institute (GHGMI) is actively seeking a Director of a new training institute in Asia. The ideal candidate will have experience working in Asia and building international partnerships, possess expertise in climate change, be technologically savvy, entrepreneurial, and be very comfortable taking initiative without close supervision.
Start Date: Immediately Location: Bangkok, Thailand Type: Full-Time, initial contract through September 2016 Citizenship: Preference will be given to citizens of Asian countries, special preference given to residents of Thailand
Low emission development strategies Low emission development strategies (LEDS) serve a critical coordinating purpose, integrating economic and climate change planning. Today, throughout Asia and across the rest of the world organizations, cities, and countries are designing and implementing LEDS to harmonize the planning, analysis, and policymaking that together make possible low carbon climate resilient development, or “green growth.”
The growing focus on LEDS will, in the long-term, dramatically increase the demand for skilled practitioners around the world. To enable the emergence of these green growth professionals, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in cooperation with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and GHGMI, has launched an important regional training and professional development hub.
The training institute This training institute is being founded by the USAID Regional Development Mission for Asia (RDMA), through the Low Emissions Asian Development (LEAD) program and in coordination with AIT and GHGMI. It is to be hosted physically by AIT Extension in Thailand and virtually by GHGMI. The core function of the training institute will be training delivery via GHGMI's virtual e-learning campus complemented by in-person instruction in Bangkok and across Asia at AIT satellite campuses and other facilities.
The training institute will deliver a rigorous curriculum of practical coursework focused on building the technical skills necessary to implement private and public sector green growth programs. Its educational programming is of relevance to practitioners in all sectors of the economy and will be delivered through a combination of traditional face-to-face and e-learning classroom hours. Balancing accessibility with rigorous technical learning objectives, this program has been tailored to develop the capacity necessary to implement LEDS across Asia.
To fulfill its role as a regional education hub, this new training institute will focus on long-term and will take a cooperative approach, serving as an open platform that other organizations and programs can partner with to help further professional development and institutional capacity building. It will also establish a clear Asian identity, with the expectation that within four years it is able to operate as an independent entity.
Director of training institute The Director of this new training institute will lead the development of curriculum, resources and delivery of programs, establishing partnerships, new funding sources, and operational systems. The incumbent will work under the USA-based Executive Director of GHGMI, and closely collaborate with the program’s Bangkok-based partners: USAID RDMA, academic and professional units within AIT, and the LEAD program office.
