We have an excellent opportunity for a Temporary Research Officer to join the Climate Change Section of our Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development (EYSD) Directorate, for a 6 month period. The EYSD Directorate is responsible for the Secretariat’s programmes on national and international development issues. The Climate Change Section focuses on strengthening the resilience of Commonwealth countries to the negative impacts of climate change. The Temporary Research Officer will be responsible for supporting the provision of technical and programme implementation support pertaining to climate change and within the climate change programme. This will involve elements of project management, research and analysis; preparation of various written outputs; providing support for development and organisation of meetings and policy dialogues; undertaking international, regional and national climate change and overall environment intelligence gathering; raising public awareness of the Commonwealth Secretariat’s work, and contributing to the preparation of work plans and budgets. To be considered for this opportunity you will need to have a degree in Climate Change, Environmental Studies, International Development or closely related field, with a specialisation in Environmental Sciences. You will need at least 4 years of relevant project management experience in climate change and environment related issues in the context of a government, regional and international institutions. You will also need to have experience conducting research and analysis to support technical assistance programmes and resource mobilisation; experience in project design, management and monitoring and evaluation, and budget management with good attention to detail in the multilateral context; good IT skills; and strong interpersonal and communication skills. You must be able to operate effectively in our multi-cultural setting and be a national of a Commonwealth country with the right to live and work in the UK.
