We seek a qualified individual to support the staff working on the Deforestation, Agriculture and Climate Change Project; in particular to carry out tasks related to project administration, logistics, research and electronic communications.

The project is designed to document the impacts on tropical forests of industrial scale production of agricultural commodities such as palm oil, soy, biofuels and meat/leather; and then to influence the major producers and retailers to implement more sustainable production methods. The goal is to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs) associated with deforestation driven by expansion of those industries. Methods include strengthening and promoting “sustainable production standards” and certification systems, whereby certified producers can be recognized in the marketplace. Under NWF’s leadership, large producers, global traders and retail brands distributing these commodities, such as grocery store chains, meet with major environmental and other civil society groups and learn how to improve their purchasing policies and other ways to reduce the “forest footprint” and GHG emissions associated with commodities production.

Responsibilities:

• Assist the Senior Advisor and Project Manager in identifying appropriate stakeholders for dialogue meetings, and help to organize the events, including local onsite logistics, keeping track of expenses, making travel arrangements for participants, arranging venues, and producing reports on the results. Assist project staff in implementation of pilot project. Organize logistics and track administrative expenses associated with major conferences. Maintain data base for the project; help produce timely and appropriate correspondence to keep project participants and other interested groups up to date with project developments.

• Conduct research and writing: As directed by the Senior Advisor, Project Manager and in collaboration with the Advisory Panel, perform research and produce drafts of policy options papers. Assist in preparation of publishable versions of these papers, and other versions to disseminate lessons learned and best practices from the dialogues and pilot projects.

• Assist the Project Manager in creating a variety of communications vehicles, including videos. Keep web- based content about the project fresh and current, to ensure that news are widely disseminated to different potential audiences. Coordinate with NWF web team and communications staff on media outreach and implementation of communications strategy for project publications. Assist Project Manager with outreach and communications with scientific experts.
