A student internship is available at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) at our Golden, Colorado office. NREL is the nation's primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies. The position is available in the Integrated Applications Center (IAC), the center dedicated to the technology neutral deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency strategies. This internship is a unique opportunity to analyze emerging and under-utilized energy-efficient and renewable energy (EE/RE) technologies through GSA’s Green Proving Ground. 

The General Services Administration (GSA) is a federal agency whose mission is to use expertise to provide innovative solutions for their customers in support of their missions and by so doing foster an effective, sustainable, and transparent government for the American people.

GSA’s Green Proving Ground Program goal is to harness the potential of innovative buildings technologies and practices that accelerate environmental efficiency in building operations in support of GSA’s and its customers’ sustainability programs. By evaluating and adopting new ideas and technologies, GSA will drive innovation in environmental performance across the agency’s portfolio and help lead market transformation efforts.

NREL is working with GSA to define appropriate measurement and verification (M&V) activities for emerging and under-utilized energy-efficient and renewable energy (EE/RE) technologies. NREL is providing a third party, independent technical evaluation of eight different technologies and developing case studies characterizing the performance of each technology.
• Contribute to the development of measurement and verification plan for five of the eight technologies. This task will include the design, installation, and commissioning of the data acquisition system.
• Collect and analyze sub metered performance data for the following technologies:
o PV-T
o High performance glazing
o Condensing Boilers
o Motor drive technology
o Multi staged indirect evaporative cooler
• Writing the final case study for each technology.
Must be enrolled as a full-time student.

Graduate students enrolled in a minimum of nine credit hours.

Undergraduate students enrolled in a minimum of twelve credit hours.

Minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.

Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
