Main duties and responsibilities: Identify and then research information on relevant early-stage low carbon companies. This includes: Online, library and database searching Attending conferences and exhibitions Data analysis Patent searching Building relevant contacts and networks Writing succinct reports with your findings. Delivering work packages to assist early-stage businesses we support. This includes the following: Researching and writing market research reports Undertaking simple IP searches using patent databases Researching and contacting potential suppliers, customers, partners and investors to understand their requirements and areas of interest. Supporting wider Carbon Trust activities, including: Feed into Carbon Trust Innovation business development and commercial activity in terms of ideas generation and evaluation, and proposal writing Be an active member of the Innovation Business area and support other functions across the organisation. Key skills: The role requires an understanding of how the process of developing products or services that rely on distinctive technology generates business value. Ability to quickly develop an understanding of the scientific and engineering principles of a range of leading-edge low carbon technologies. Motivated self-starter who is comfortable talking to and collaborating with diverse stakeholders by identifying their requirements, building trust and sharing enthusiasm. Uses initiative to develop and secure support from informal internal and external networks. Impactful communication skills: able to write fluently and with grammatical accuracy; able to structure documents very clearly, so that key messages are communicated effectively and retained in the memory of readers; able to adapt messaging to audience both in design and in live oral response to audience feedback. Confident and effective public speaker. Excellent project management skills and proven ability to prioritise time and deliver results; flexible approach to managing work and people. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and on a standalone basis. Qualifications and experience: A good degree (at least 2:1) from a leading university with a strong grounding in science, engineering or business Ability to work independently, and to travel within Europe Ability to source and then sift large amounts of information, often technical and often in a field you are unfamiliar with, to draw out the key points and to express these clearly, concisely and in a manner that inspires confidence in the listener/reader. Experience of working on the commercialisation of the output of research and development activities, and/or a track record of the commercial development of technology-business(es), and/or financial investment into technology-business(es) would be beneficial Experience of working in the low carbon / "cleantech" sector would be beneficial Business or technology consultancy experience would be beneficial |
