You will be expected to attend a CBC office location on a monthly basis, and as needed to carry out your role Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent Closing Date: Wednesday 12th July 2023 Interview Dates: Wednesday 17th – Friday 19th July 2023 About Us Central Bedfordshire is an ambitious authority, determined to be an exemplary one. Our strategic location and high quality of life mean we are one of the fastest growing areas in the country. As a council we face the same challenges every business does - investing in the right places and delivering great results. Except for us, it’s all about our 289,000 residents. We’re totally focussed on helping to improve their lives and making Central Bedfordshire a great place to live and work. We have set values and principles to represent the way we work and how we operate as an organisation. You can view a list of these in detail on our website. This is a great time to join us on our journey. More about the role: Central Bedfordshire Council is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030 and support the ‘2050 vision’ for the area. Transport is responsible for a large proportion of the overall emissions in Central Bedfordshire and so there is great importance in the work we do to reduce this. The decarbonisation of transport is a strategic aim nationally and locally, with active travel improvements and the transition to electric vehicles being key drivers of this. We are looking for an exceptional candidate who can demonstrate experience in handling, managing and analysing data, ideally with a background or interest in sustainability, transport and/or technology. Experience using GIS systems is extremely desirable, as is a proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of products to allow the candidate to hit the ground running. The role will involve supporting the ongoing work around electric vehicle infrastructure. Key projects will include assisting with the development of the Council’s EV Strategy, building and reporting on evidence bases, mapping and analysing spatial data, helping to assess locations for charge point provision, supporting grant funding applications, helping to advise colleagues across the organisation, responding to requests, and a variety of other tasks. The candidate should have a keen eye for detail, take pride in their tasks, work independently, and bring new ideas to the table to improve service delivery. If the opportunity to help enhance our environment, to support the delivery of significant transport schemes, and to achieve the ambitious aims of the Council’s Sustainability Plan is appealing, then this role could be for you. If you are successful, you will join a dynamic, new team working within the Council’s Sustainability service area. Your role will be supported by some experienced colleagues who will quickly make you feel part of the team and provide the necessary training to get up to speed. The role will also present the opportunity to work alongside and build relationships with a range of key stakeholders, such as colleagues, councillors, businesses, residents, and contractors. You will largely be based at home, however there will be times that involve working at locations across Central Bedfordshire, undertaking site visits and attending community-facing meetings, so having access to your own means of transport is essential. Central Bedfordshire Council has its own vision and values that are integral to everything we do. Our vision is to make Central Bedfordshire 'a great place to live and work’. If you are interested and have skills and experience that fit the role, then we would love to hear from you.
