Project Summary

Rainforest Alliance and partner organizations Fundación Natura in Colombia (FNC), and Conservación y Desarrollo in Ecuador (CyD), are working jointly to execute the USAID-funded project, Initiative for Conservation in the Andean Amazon (ICAA), to address priority threats and opportunities in private lands, extractive reserves, buffer zones of protected areas, and indigenous lands in the Western Amazon of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia. The consortium will use sustainable markets and certification for timber and wood products, Brazil nuts, coffee, cocoa, and tourism to conserve biodiversity and natural resources in this region, and has identified organizations that serve hundreds of farmers, foresters, lodge owners, or multiple communities as beneficiaries in select, biodiversity-rich target sites.

Position Summary

The Technical Coordination Manager will be responsible for providing support to the Associate Project Director by helping manage the technical and financial performance of the agriculture, tourism and forestry components of Rainforest Alliance led projects (ICAA being the principal project) in the region (Ecuador, Colombia, Peru and Bolivia). This is done primarily through the implementation of a performance monitoring and evaluation system, and the coordination, consolidation and drafting of work plans and performance reports. These responsibilities require training, motivating, and supporting project staff and ICAA partners in report preparation, use of the monitoring and evaluation system, budget monitoring, and project planning.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare regional project work plans by component and country;
  • Prepare and consolidate all the technical semi-annual and annual reports, in addition to other technical reports requested by the donor;
  • Prepare and consolidate technical monthly reports based on the reports received from regional technical staff and partners;
  • Monitor and evaluate project performance based on planned activities, indicator targets, and budget;
  • Analyze project data, and prepare tables, graphs, maps, brief reports, etc. to communicate project performance to the DCOP and COP;
  • Obtain and systemize the technical and geographic information and data for monitoring and evaluation of different project components;
  • Provide training to technical staff in report preparation, use of the monitoring and evaluation system, project planning, and activity and budget monitoring;
  • Represent the Associate Project Director and/or Regional Project Director at events or meetings in their absence; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business administration, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management or related discipline; Master's Degree preferred;
  • Minimum 5 - 7 years experience managing development projects;
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, project monitoring and evaluation, and training;
  • Previous experience with financial oversight of government-funded projects;
  • USAID projects experience preferred;
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in South America;
  • Familiarity with accreditation or certification systems is a plus;
  • Fluent English and Spanish (both oral and written communications skills);
  • Strong Microsoft Office use and computer skills, experience with ArcView a plus;
  • Strong analytical skills to respond to multi-cultural situations; and
  • Ability to travel at least 15 percent of the time, including travel within Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia and Colombia and others.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience.
