The Department of Conservation welcomes applications for 15 newly created Tauira Kaitiaki Taiao Conservation Cadetships. This is a pilot training programme that will give participants hands-on skills, training and conservation work experience in the Northland, Bay of Plenty and Tongariro/Taupo regions. The cadets (five in each region) will be employed for the duration of the programme (21 months). Through a mix of work experience and formal training the cadets will achieve the Level 3 National Certificates in Conservation and Tikanga Maori. The cadetships are open to people residing in Northland, the Bay of Plenty or the Central North Island region. Applicants who are able to support the longer-term conservation management aspirations of Iwi and hapü are preferred. We are looking for both men and women (no age constraints) who are keen to develop new skills and have a commitment to assisting Iwi, hapü and the Department to work together to further conservation management in the local area.
