Description

The Sustainability Division provides strategic advice to the Executive Board on all sustainability issues, particularly those pertaining to climate-related, environmental and biodiversity risks. Its work focuses on macroeconomic and financial stability policy implications as well as banking supervision and financial market aspects. The Division continues to develop the Bundesbank’s sustainability strategy, and steers and coordinates the Bundesbank’s work and contributions in this area within international bodies. In addition, it advises and supports our Executive Board member, Dr Sabine Mauderer, as she performs her tasks as Chair of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS).

Valuable work: your role with us

  • You will analyse the impact of biodiversity-related risks on the core functions of the Bundesbank. In this context, you will focus on the macroeconomic implications of biodiversity loss as well as the funding of the necessary transformation of the economy. In doing so, you will take account of national, European and international developments.
  • Through your work, and in consultation with the responsible member of the Executive Board, you will set out focal points for the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS). You will work together with other business units to devise strategic positions for the Bundesbank and prepare these for the responsible member of the Executive Board and top-level management.
  • In addition, you will coordinate the Bundesbank’s work in and for the NGFS, liaising with internal and external stakeholders.

Unique assets: your skills and qualifications

  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in economics or natural sciences; academic work related to the economic implications of nature and biodiversity loss would be an advantage
  • Several years of professional experience in the field of sustainability, e.g. in international organisations, national authorities, strategy consultation or the financial sector
  • Strong expertise on the interactions between climate change and nature loss as well as their macroeconomic significance; knowledge of the methods and tools used to measure biodiversity loss and its financial risks
  • Good knowledge of national and international objectives, measures and (multilateral) agreements to protect biodiversity; experience in communicating and cooperating with relevant (international) actors would be an advantage
  • Ability to work independently, analytically and as part of a team
  • Ability to quickly familiarise yourself with new topics and issues, including under time pressure
  • Capacity to think strategically and act in a solution-oriented manner, combined with strong powers of persuasion and decision-making faculties in a complex international environment
  • Excellent command of English; prior knowledge of German is not required, but willingness to learn is essential
