Job Opportunity

Supply
Chain Programme Manager

Smallholder
Accelerations and REDD+ Programme (SHARP)

Project Background

The Smallholder Acceleration and REDD+ Programme (SHARP) is a new multi-stakeholder partnership which works with the private sector to support sustainable smallholder development, while improving livelihoods, minimising deforestation and improving food security. SHARP does this by working with the private sector – both producer and supply chain companies as well as financial organisations- as key agents of change in collaboration with other stakeholders and the smallholders themselves. For further information about SHARP, please refer to www.sharp-partnership.org.

Proforest is hiring on behalf of the SHARP Partnership and are offering an exciting opportunity for an innovative and dynamic professional to work on practical mechanisms to increase the amount of smallholder products in
sustainable supply chains.

Job Description

The position involves coordinating and developing the programme on integrating smallholders into responsible supply chains. The position requires extensive understanding and experience in supply chain and traceability mechanisms, and sustainability requirements related to agricultural commodity production and how this relates to smallholders. The candidate will be expected to liaise and communicate closely with supply chain companies and representatives of certification standards and initiatives for ensuring alignment with accepted international best practices and goals. The candidate will also be responsible for convening international experts and coordinating the work of subsequent working groups that will be established to implement the various activities within the programme.

The candidate will collaborate closely with and report to the SHARP Director.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of the SHARP supply chain programme to
increase the proportion of smallholder products in responsible supply chains
  • Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders, including
    international experts on environmental and social sustainability requirements;
  • Organise and facilitate a range of different international
    meetings and expert workshops
  • Report on and distribute results of expert meetings and workshops
  • Coordinate and facilitate information sharing and mutual learning
    platforms
  • Liaise closely with companies to test and implement tools and
    solutions

Qualifications, Experience, Qualities

The candidate should have a Master’s degree in a related discipline (e.g.
business, supply chains, operations, agriculture or forestry) or have a minimum
of five years work
experience and expertise in international supply chain management,
sustainability policy implementation, and commodity certification and
sustainability standard process requirements.

The candidate should have a clear understanding
and awareness of the key sustainability issues and challenges faced in
sustainable supply chain sourcing and be familiar with the practical realities
faced by smallholders producing agricultural commodities.

Strong decision making and problem solving skills are required in
order to make decisions and reach compromises in multi-stakeholder development
processes. Candidates need to be able to think
and act fast, work under pressure and be able to take into account multiple
interests and perceptions in decision making processes.

We expect the candidate to have a proven
track record and experience in project management and be able to work with
minimal supervision. In order to facilitate meetings and communicate with
project partners, international experts and external partners, the candidate
should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Finally, for reporting and communication
purposes, the candidate is expected to be proficient in written and spoken
English.

The following would be useful:

  • Experience working with a voluntary standard scheme or a
    certification body;
  • Fluency in a second language (particularly French, Portuguese,
Spanish, Bahasa Malaysia or Bahasa Indonesia).

SHARP is run from the Proforest office in Oxford, UK, but there is scope for the Director to be based elsewhere.
