Environment America is hiring summer field organizers to fight for clean air. Send your resume and cover letter to Monique Sullivan, Recruitment Director for Environment America, at msullivan@environmentamerica.org. Background The good news is the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is taking action to clean up our air. Last year EPA finalized historic standards for mercury, soot and smog pollution, standards that are expected to save thousands of lives. This year, EPA is tackling the problem of global warming and has just proposed the first-ever carbon pollution standards for new power plants. Power plants are the largest single source of the carbon pollution that fuels global warming. Major polluters and their allies in Congress have mounted a powerful attack to stop these limits on air pollution. This summer, we need to build and mobilize public support to overcome the opposition of these major polluters and win. And we’re going to organize in a set of politically important places to do just that. Job Description That's where you come in. Environment America is hiring summer field organizers to work with us to elevate the problem of air pollution, and specifically the carbon pollution that fuels global warming, in the media, build diverse coalitions to demonstrate broad-based public support, and mobilize hundreds of ordinary citizens to stand up for their air, their health, and their planet, as the fight for cleaner air really heats up. We’re hiring in: Columbus, Ohio; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Portland, Maine; and Washington, D.C. These positions begin in early May and run through the end of July. And there will be a one week training held in Washington, D.C. near the beginning of the campaign. Pay for the positions will be based on a 3 month salary of $5,937.50. Summer field organizers will have the opportunity to apply for career positions with Environment America. College graduates, graduating seniors and rising seniors are invited to apply.
