BACK TO THE WILD Studies in Wildlife Rehabilitation Fragmentation, degradation and destruction of India's wildlife habitats have reduced the living space for wild animals. Natural calamities like forest fires, floods and cyclones have further compounded their problems, hindering their movement to safer habitats. The result of such man-made pressures and natural calamities is animals getting displaced from their habitats, necessitating human intervention. This publication describes the major issue of wildlife displacement in India arising due to man-wildlife conflict, the possible options for placement of different species, and the problems and prospects of taking up rehabilitation as a possible mitigation strategy.
