POSITION TITLE: Statistician

DURATION OF CONTRACT: July 15 to November 15, 2010

DUTY STATION: Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines

REPORTING TO: Director, Biodiversity Information Management 

Scope of Duties: 

1. Conduct projection analysis and develop indices, graphs and other appropriate statistical products per country and regional level based on spatial data/information in the ASEAN BISS particularly on: 

a. Protected areas (marine and terrestrial)

b. Terrestrial and marine ecosystems and resources

c. Socio-economics and demographics

d. Species occurrence/status

e. Multilateral environmental agreements

f. Initiatives

g. Policies and Agreements

h. Capacity building activities 

Performance Indicator:

• · Country and regional projections, indices, tables, and other appropriate statistical analysis/presentations on biodiversity information in the ASEAN region relating to items 1 a-h. 

2. Conduct projection analysis and develop indices, graphs, and other appropriate statistical products per country and regional level on the following ACB thematic theme:

a. Access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising out of their utilization (ABS)

b. Agro-biodiversity and biosafety

c. Climate change and biodiversity

d. Ecotourism and biodiversity conservation

e. Global taxonomic initiative

f. Invasive alien species

g. Payment for ecosystems services

h. Peatland management and biodiversity

i. Wildlife enforcement

j. Business and biodiversity.

Performance Indicator:

• · Country and regional projections, indices, graphs, tables, and other appropriate statistical analysis/presentations on biodiversity information in the ASEAN region relating to items 2 a-i. 

3. In the process of data analysis, suggest ways and means to appropriately harmonize available data from different sources (e.g., global data holders vs. AMS data) to produce sound and reliable statistical analysis and projections.

Performance Indicator:

• · Statistical methods to harmonize biodiversity information/statistics on protected areas, socio-economics, demographics, forest cover, among others.
