The staff writer fulfills a critical role on Conservation International’s (CI’s) Marketing and Communications (M+C) editorial team, responsible for researching, developing, writing and editing compelling, accurate, targeted communications for a variety of CI’s channels. The staff writer will place a particular emphasis on providing broad institutional support and support of M+C’s communications and engagement goals through the delivery of consistently on-brand, on-message materials under the guidance of the Editorial Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research, write and edit content for CI’s marketing and communications channels, including the CI website, blog, e-newsletters, brochures, reports, factsheets, annual reports and collateral materials.
- Serve as manager of the blog in the absence of the managing editor.
- Support CI’s online engagement and fundraising efforts by writing and editing online and offline appeals and associated campaign copy
- Support CI’s storytelling efforts by researching/writing/editing features for the Team Earth storytelling platform and correlated support pieces
- Support internal communications efforts by providing editorial guidance to CI Connect, staff profiles and all-staff/leadership e-mails

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Minimum 2 years of writing, editing, journalism or public relations experience
- Demonstrated superior writing, editing, research and communication skills
- Proven ability to generate content for a variety of audiences and media
- Ability to deliver high-quality writing while managing a large workload and multiple deadlines
- Experience with online content publishing and social media platforms
- Experience developing copy for e-mail campaigns, online cultivation, acquisition and fundraising
- Familiarity with AP style
- Keen attention to detail
- Flexibility, adaptability and the capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree
- Proven ability to translate complex issues and technical language into compelling content for a variety of audiences preferred
- Prior experience in a non-profit organization or in fundraising and development preferred
- Fluency in additional language(s) a plus
- Knowledge of and interest in conservation and international development issues strongly preferred
