Species Protection Officer (Peregrine)

Falls of Clyde, New Lanark
Duration: * 7 March - 15 July

Working at the popular Falls of Clyde wildlife reserve between March and July, the post holder will organise and manage Operation Peregrine and represent SWT on this busy site (10,000 visitors to Operation Peregrine in 2010). Duties include:

* Setting up Operation Peregrine 2011, including site fencing, interpretation, telescopes, cctv systems and caravan
* Staffing Operation Peregrine for 5 days/nights per week (staying in basic accommodation onsite overnight) from April to June
* Maintaining a 24hr presence on site to protect the nesting peregrines (staff & volunteers)
* Talking to visitors about the peregrines and SWT
* Organising, managing and training volunteers
* Membership recruitment
* Maintaining the site and accommodation in a clean and tidy condition
* Taking donations and shop sales
* Regularly updating the Visitor Centre and SWT website diary

Good communication and presentation skills, self motivation and knowledge of peregrine falcons are essential. The position will require long working days with basic accommodation provided on site with weekend, evenings and public holiday working.
*Applicants should be aware that the appointment and duration of this post depends on the successful nesting pattern of the peregrines.
