Role purpose:
To provide advice and mentoring, through both face-to-face and remote engagement, to businesses, public sector bodies and other organisations on how to improve their resource efficiency and waste management practices. This will include the development and delivery of reports, presentations, publications, tools, templates and other on-line materials required to underpin provision of this support.
 
Successful candidates will demonstrate the following skills & Knowledge of:
 
• global and national environmental issues
• resource efficiency methodologies, tools and techniques
 
…and a working knowledge of:
 
• waste management and materials recycling
• water and effluent minimisation
• energy management and efficiency
• EU, UK and Scottish environmental legislation
• the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan
• sustainable economic development
• sustainable procurement
 
Candidates must demonstrate business skills, including:
 
• technical report writing skills, including high standards of written English
• technical presentation skills, including delivering confident and articulate public presentations
• technical analytics, including data collection, collation and manipulation using spreadsheets
• project specification, management and delivery, using established methodologies
• ability to interpret and apply QA processes
 
Candidates must demonstrate commercial skills, including:
 
• ability to maintain a clear focus on customer satisfaction
• experience of working to commercial priorities
• ability to recognize operational-level commercial opportunities
 
The Person:
• Ideally you will be qualified to masters or honours degree level in a related scientific, engineering or business discipline.
• Membership of an appropriate professional body eg IEMA, CIWM etc would be beneficial. So to would be experience within a public or private sector organization working in areas of environmental management or resource efficiency/waste management.
• An ability to work with limited supervision, both independently or as part of a tight-knit team.
• The ability to deliver against deadlines.
• Candidates will be required to travel extensively across Scotland or to other parts of the UK.  Some lone working and travel will be required.
• Candidates may be required to deliver audits and advice on-site at commercial or industrial premises where access is limited.
Wherever possible, business travel will be by public transport, however, some driving will be required. Candidates should therefore hold a valid UK driving license.
