An exciting opportunity exists for a motivated and enthusiastic person to join BirdLife Australia’s Woodland Bird Program as the Southern NSW Woodland Birds Project Officer. This role will assist in implementing and delivering a project aimed at restoring landscape connections for threatened nectar-feeding woodland birds. It will deliver a ‘Birds On Farms’ program approach that encourages landscape-scale management of temperate woodlands in the greater Holbrook region on the south-west slopes of New South Wales, using the Black-chinned Honeyeater, Little Lorikeet and Dusky Woodswallow as flagship species. The project will also look to provide benefit for a variety of woodland species, including the Painted Honeyeater, Swift Parrot, and Regent Honeyeater. The project is co-funded by the NSW Government’s Saving our Species Program (via its Environmental Trust), and the Foundation for National Parks and Wildlife (FNPW). Reporting to the BirdLife Australia’s Woodland Bird Program Leader and working in collaboration with the Holbrook Landcare Network within the Great Eastern Ranges Slopes2Summit project area, the role will address a series of threats common to a number of woodland-dependent species using nectar-feeders as the flagship. The Southern NSW Woodland Birds Project Officer will be required to support/work closely with partner organisations undertaking on-ground works to reduce threats and improve habitat conditions for the threatened and declining woodland birds. The position will also implement project management including collating project outputs for reporting to funding agencies, managing the project budget, and seeking funding and in-kind contributions to expand or extend the project. (Please download Position Description below for a full list of duties and selection criteria). Location: The position is based in the project area between Albury and Holbrook in southern NSW. An office may be provided; if such is not available office expenses are reimbursed, and the employee will be paid to use their own vehicle. Status: This is a part-time (2.5 days a week) position offered until end June 2021. A continuation to the contract after two years may be offered subject to performance and available funding. Salary: $57,000-$64,000 (plus 9.5% superannuation guarantee) full time equivalent will be pro rata for 2.5 days a week. Final salary to be negotiated with successful candidate based on skills and experience.
