- Salary up to £45,000 dependant on experience

River Stewardship Company are based in Sheffield working across Yorkshire, East Midlands, Lincolnshire, and Greater Manchester delivering water way maintenance, invasive species management and natural flood management. In addition, we provide arboriculture, landscaping, and habitat restoration services. We are part of the Environmental Framework delivering services across several regions.
We believe in giving back and do so through our partner company Riverlution, supporting several projects providing social impact to local communities and through a bespoke environmental training scheme. As the SHEQ Manager you will provide management, support and advisory services to the leadership and operational teams on SHEQ matters in accordance with the dictates of legislation and company policy to continuously improve overall SHEQ performance.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide guidance and advice at project set up and delivery stages of projects to ensure compliance with statutory requirements and company standards.
- Overseeing annual accreditation external audits and introducing SHEQ/ISO audits.
- Evaluating quality standards within the business, communicating changes, and implementing relevant adjustments.
- Managing the company policies to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
- Work with the operations team during tender stage to ensure all relevant information is available and provided as requested.
- Regularly reviewing and updating risk assessments for all operations, offices, and sites to meet regulatory and internal standards.
- On a day-to-day basis ensure projects comply with statutory requirements and company standards whilst providing relevant guidance and advice.
- Carry out site audits to ensure compliance providing feedback via the company’s reporting system.
- Highlight areas where poor practice and/or significant risk have occurred. Where necessary prevent works continuing on-site and empower staff to raise any concerns.
- Assist in the development of risk assessments relating to SHEQ on a project-by-project basis.
- Audit subcontractor paperwork and safe systems of work prior and during delivery phase.
- Assist with office audits and risk assessments.
- Managing the investigation of incidents and accidents, producing detailed reports identifying root causes and prevention recommendations.
- Liaise with enforcing authorities as necessary.
- Keep up to date with new legislation and best practices in the industry through regular reading of journals and relevant website/ site visits.
- Raise awareness on SHEQ issues through toolbox talks and briefings, delivering training where necessary.
