Scientific Research

We are seeking a senior research scientist to lead a portfolio of research contributing to ecosystem based management in Australia’s coastal and continental shelf waters.  This refers to scientific support for multiple-use management, where the “uses” include fishing, other extractive industries, tourism, environmental conservation, development of human settlements; and the approach is based on a scientific understanding of the functioning and dynamics of ecological systems (including climate change) and the interactions of multiple human activities within them.  It requires an understanding of ecological modelling, model uncertainty and modern approaches to the science-policy interface.

As a Research Group Leader, you will also be responsible for planning research delivery and managing the deployment of staff (ca. 40) and infrastructure into a portfolio of research projects.

CSIRO operates a matrix structure with research outputs largely delivered through Flagship Programs (directed at problems of National and International significance) and capability (people, infrastructure & relationships) managed through Divisions.

The division of Marine and Atmospheric Research, with a budget in excess of $90M pa, is the largest Business Unit in CSIRO and employs over 550 dedicated research and support staff, located in five States.
