More detail can be provided at the interview and offer stages. About the job Job summary Who are JNCC? Established in 1991, we’re the UK’s statutory advisor on issues affecting the natural environment across the UK and internationally. Our primary role is advising all four Governments of the UK. We also work with private sector organisations to support decision making on the sustainable use of marine waters and natural resources around the UK. JNCC is led by the Joint Committee, which brings together members from the nature conservation bodies for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and independent members appointed by the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs under an independent Chair. Support is provided to the Committee by almost 270 people who bring together scientific and technical expertise, extensive knowledge of policy at global, European and national levels, and skills in working with other organisations. Staff are based in two main offices in Peterborough and Aberdeen. Why JNCC? We’re small enough (c.270 staff) that your voice is heard by everyone including the CEO, but big enough that we have all the skills, resources and people you’ll need to get the job done. All our staff are passionate about conservation and making a difference to the world we live in. We have a very flexible, inclusive and welcoming organisational culture. Our Executive Management provides employees with the freedom and tools you will need, and our friendly team will assist you in your role. JNCC is committed to maintaining employee health and wellbeing, whether it is physically, emotionally, financially or socially, and offers a range of benefits to support employees in this. Such benefits include the option to join the Civil Service Pension Scheme, professional and personal development opportunities as well as an exciting job in a unique environment. Short Summary: The main focus of the post will be to provide non-technical project management expertise within the Marine Species Team, supporting primarily the Marine Ornithology Group in offshore industry evidence and advice provision. To complement this role, we also collaborate with a range of organisations, government, non-government and private sector, to co-design and deliver evidence required to support sustainable use of marine resources. The Marine Ornithology Group has an important focus on producing evidence to increase the certainty with which we can assess the possible impacts of offshore industry on marine birds and support the design of mitigation and compensatory measures. Example projects include the Offshore Wind Strategic Monitoring & Research Forum, red-throated diver energetics research, projects on the relationship between seabirds and prey availability, and monitoring of distribution and behaviour of seabirds at sea. The post holder will become an integral part of our delivery team, working closely with the specialist advisers on projects, liaising with collaborators and leading development of new projects. They will also work closely with our Finance Team and Communications Team. We are looking for someone with strong project management skills, financial acumen, good relationship development and excellent communications skills, and a desire to innovate. While we are looking for someone with strength in project delivery and communication, knowledge of ecology and a passion for marine species conservation are desirable. Job description Post Duties • Provide the full range of project management needs for several multi-partner projects, including planning, risk management, procurement, and contract and financial management. • Engage with partners to ensure successful collaborations, and represent projects, the Team and JNCC at engagement events, including at conferences. • Work with specialists to develop new collaborations and projects, including development of bids for externally funded work. • As a member of the Team and project partnerships, proactively plan communication of our work, deliver high quality communications, and promote outcomes to a range of interested organisations. • Maintain an overview and audit of ongoing synthesis and research projects relevant to our Team’s remit, including within JNCC, the UK and Europe. • Inform our strategic approach to marine species evidence provision and engage with evidence priority assessments done by other organisations.
