Conduct analysis on renewable and distributed energy systems including integration with electrical power systems and deployment of the technology. Work would focus on conducting analysis, technology and project assessments for distributed and central station power generation equipment that would incorporate renewable energy. Support the deployment and assessment of renewable technologies (Wind, Solar, Hydro, Biomass) by conducting simulation studies for a variety of scenarios of interconnections of generation and electrical distribution systems. Support Renewable Energy project development through assessments of design plans, engineering review, bid document specification and technical project oversight. Work with deployment programs to address issues and concerns associated with integrating large amounts of renewable energy technologies into existing and next generation electrical systems. Work to support the implementation of microgrid concepts in physical projects.
Perform activities to support the deployment of renewable technologies, primarily in distributed energy systems including integration with electrical power systems. Assess electrical systems relating to the integration of renewable technologies (Wind, Solar, Hydro, Biomass, fuel cells, batteries, etc) into existing power electric system infrastructure. Support deployement of renewable technologies in remote or distributed energy settings, incorporating the latest microgrid concepts. Conduct simulation studies for a variety of scenarios of renewable interconnections of electrical systems, using ETAP, SKM, PSCAD and/or Distributed Engineering Workstation (DEW). Produce reports on technical work and provide input to technical publications and presentations. Work with other deployment specialists to address concerns relating to the integration of variable renewable technologies. Serve as task lead for electrical projects and liaison with clients. Speak at public events regarding the impacts of renewable electrical generation on the nation’s energy distribution and transmission infrastructure.
Relevant PhD and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Master's Degree and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 9 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Applies extensive engineering technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Considered a technical resource.

Demonstrates leadership in several areas of team, task or project lead responsibilities. Demonstrated experience in management of projects. Excellent writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated technical knowledge of engineering practices, procedures, and techniques. Demonstrated experience in electrical engineering with specialty in power systems analysis or design, communications, controls and/or medium voltage distribution design. Proficient at electrical system simulation programs (e.g., Powerworld, PSS/E, PSLF, Synergee, Matlab/SimPower Systems, PSCAD, Simulink). Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to work well in a team or independently with limited supervision, and lead team activities. Required attributes include: strong verbal, presentation, and technical writing abilities; sound interpersonal communication, creativity, innovativeness, and adaptability. The ideal candidate for this role has experience with distribution networks, as a distribution engineer and/or planning gained from working with a utility company.
Relevant Master's Degree and 10 years experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Demonstrated experience in electrical engineering with specialty in power systems analysis. Experience with smartgrid technologies, instrumentation installations, data collection, communications systems, protection schemes and/or control systems is desirable. Experience in project management of basic projects. Demonstrated success with adaptive or situational learning and mentorship.
