Description

This post is essential for the functioning of the team, with the post holder required to manage the delivery of the large Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) reports required for future projects, oversee the running of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and the management of Antarctic wastes. Other technical responsibilities include provision of environmental training and preparation of oil spill response contingency plans. The post holder will also be required to line manage staff.

We are looking for a suitably experienced and organised individual, with a flexible approach to their workload. The post holder will need to be capable of managing projects and staff. Good communication and numerical skills are vital for this role.

Purpose

This role is to enable and support BAS Operations and Science teams in meeting their legal and corporate environmental management commitments and help improve BAS’s environmental performance.

Qualification

A relevant degree in appropriate environmental sciences subject. Working towards full membership of IEMA (or similar professional body).

Duties

  • Preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) for BAS construction and science projects
  • Management of the BAS Environmental Management System (EMS) certified to ISO14001:2015
  • Provision of environmental advice and guidance on legal compliance and improving environmental performance
  • Provision of training, operational procedures and expertise on waste management and oil spill response
  • Support and deputise for the Head of Environment Office
  • Line management of staff

Any other tasks, as identified by the Director and the Head of Environment Office, relevant to the remit of the role.
