About the role:

Our team is growing as a result of exciting new opportunities and growing demand. We are now seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Consultant who has a desire to continue to develop their skills by helping to deliver a wide variety of EIA projects for the mining and infrastructure sectors in WA. Our key services in demand for the WA environment team are environmental approvals, compliance and auditing, sustainability and environmental management of operations.

About you:

We are looking for a Senior Environmental Consultant that can demonstrate strong technical and project management skills in order to deliver EIA projects for our relevant sectors. For this position you will need:

  • A degree/post graduate qualification in environmental science, environmental planning, urban and regional planning (or similar)
  • Preferably 10 years’ experience with at least 5 years having been gained in consultancy
  • Knowledge or ability to gain knowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth Legislation applicable to WA
  • Demonstrated WA mining approvals experience
  • Extensive experience and competency in relation to Project Management, particularly integrated, multidisciplinary projects
  • Strong proposal and report writing skills
  • Adaptability to undertake a range of technical work based on project requirements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated aptitude for collaboration
  • Ability to develop, maintain and own positive client relationships
  • An ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders including government agencies
  • Skills in business development
  • Highly motivated and self-directed
  • Knowledge of and experience in implementing workplace health and safety requirements
  • Current drivers’ licence

Position Title: Senior Water Resources Engineer (Flood Modelling)

About the role:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Water Resources Engineer with a demonstrated background in flood modelling and report writing. This is a key position within Umwelt’s Water Engineering team based at our Teralba office. The position reports directly to the Team Manager and will assist to develop and strengthen the established Umwelt water business in NSW and also assist to drive expansion of the water business across sectors and regions.

About you:

We are looking for an experienced Senior Water Resources Engineer with the following:

  • Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Previous relevant working experience (3-8 years)
  • Expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic investigations, flood impact and risk assessment, and associated report writing
  • Expertise with hydrologic modelling software:  XP-RAFTS
  • Expertise with hydraulic modelling software:  TUFLOW, HEC-RAS
  • Expertise with GIS software for flood modelling:  MapInfo, ArcGIS, QGIS (one or more)
  • Preparation of reports and documentation detailing results of studies
  • Preparation of proposals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including clients and government agencies
  • A team player who is organised, motivated and self-directed.

Highly Regarded Skills (desirable but not essential):

Significant experience in one or more of the following areas will be highly regarded:

  • Surface water impact assessments
  • Drainage design and stormwater management plans
  • Water balance modelling (e.g. GoldSIM) and water management plans
  • Erosion and sediment control
  • Water sensitive urban design and water quality modelling (e.g. MUSIC)
  • Dam break studies
  • Experience with other software packages relating to hydrologic and hydraulic modelling (e.g. WBNM, RORB, RMA-2).

  • Experience supporting water resources engineering projects, typically including:
    • flood studies (both one and two dimensional flood modelling);
    • surface water impact assessments
    • water quality assessments;
    • water management system strategies and concept designs;
    • water balance assessments;
    • drainage design and surface water diversions.
  • Preparation of reports and documentation detailing results of studies
  • Preparation of proposals.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Archaeologist, to provide delivery of Aboriginal cultural heritage and archaeological projects. Working as part of our team you will get to work on a range of interesting and high-profile projects while our Principal Archaeologists help you continue to grow your skills. The successful applicant will be a ‘self-starter’, with strong commitment and the ability to successfully deliver projects.

About you:

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Archaeologist who has:

  • Degree in Archaeology or other relevant degree, with Honours level qualifications as a minimum
  • Previous relevant working experience (at least 5 years)
  • Sound knowledge of State and Commonwealth legislation
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Management of Aboriginal archaeological projects as a minimum and experience in historical heritage also desirable
    • Consultation with Aboriginal parties
    • Preparation of high quality reports, including Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Assessments, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management Plans and Archaeological Salvage Reports
    • Obtaining and implementing Aboriginal Heritage Impact Permits, with the ability to obtain and implement Excavation Permits and Exemption/Exceptions also desirable
    • Archaeological surveys, test excavation, monitoring, excavation, recording and analysis of artefacts
    • Working with statutory authorities, including the Office of Environment and Heritage, Heritage Division and local councils
    • Working within budget and meeting deadlines
  • Commitment to workplace health and safety requirements
