Job Description: - Head the Regional Marine Strategies (RMS) Department within Conservation Strategies Division.
- Lead the department and facilitate and coordinate work of regional marine programs and the Seascapes Program.
- Lead the department in coordinating and advising on Marine issues with key stakeholders, including other divisions with the organization.
- Provide technical support and leadership to guide strategy development and implementation of regional marine programs including but not limited exclusive to efforts in Brazil, Gulf of California, Hawaii, Madagascar, Melanesia, and the Pacific Islands, and DC divisions and programs.
- Represent department both internally and externally, interacting with government officials and other stakeholders, including partners and donors. Provide leadership for implementation of the Seascapes Program, for helping to secure marine conservation outcomes, function oversight of Seascapes implementation and coordination of reporting and fundraising.
- Provide leadership, technical expertise and support for the implementation of the Marine Management Science Program, including a lead role in implementing outcomes related to capacity-building and science to action. Provide same leadership and support to other regional initiatives.
- Provide programmatic leadership in establishment of Marine Advisory Council and help ensure the generation of useful advice and fundraising opportunities.
- Provide leadership for development of new programs, fundraising efforts, develop project proposals, identify and pursue new sources of funding and perform other senior management functions.
- Direct and manage department in compliance with internal policy and management procedures, including those pertaining to oversight, budget preparation and management, fundraising, communications, HR, and grants and contracts.
- Represent department for annual strategic planning and budgetary development; oversee regional marine coordination and communications; manage support to programs and secure outcomes for grants.
- Manage department personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Job Requirements: - Ph.D. in marine biology, management or related field
- At least 3 years of broad marine conservation strategy development, program management and international policy experience
- Or any suitable combination of education, training and experience
Special Requirements: - Good scientific publication record, good fundraising record and excellent communication skills a must
- Ability to work in variety of cultural and political setting
- Significant travel with up to 50% of time dedicated to travel to marine priority regions
