The Senior Development Associate is an integral member of the Energy & Climate team, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding financial and in-kind donors for the Energy & Climate program from corporations, foundations, governments, and individuals.  

The Senior Development Associate identifies institutional synergies and new funding sources, manages cultivation and solicitation data and results, creates proposals and letters of interest to meet program objectives, and works effectively and collaboratively with other UN Foundation programs and offices to maximize grant potential and partnership success.  The Senior Development Associate serves as the point of contact for a portfolio of donors and stewards relations with other offices within the UN Foundation.  Overseeing record keeping, proposal tracking, and donor stewardship activities are all critical elements of this position, as is maintaining a strong understanding of the trends and opportunities for funding in the energy and climate sector.

Reporting Relationships/Scope

The Senior Development Associate reports to the Vice President, Energy and Climate and is an integral part of a strong, close-knit team devoted to managing the UN Foundation’s energy and climate programs. S/he works collaboratively with and in support of the entire UNF team and will be expected to contribute to its objectives to raise revenue for the institution.

Responsibilities/Deliverables

•    Secures financial and in-kind support for a range of Energy & Climate programs through donor prospecting and proposal development.  Actively researches and identifies new sources of support for the Energy & Climate Department.
•    Manages stewardship of Energy & Climate program funders and prospects.  Works with management to ensure follow up on all meetings, proposals, etc.  Provides critical information on UN Foundation activities to partners and prospects. 
•    Coordinates team proposal development processes, including preparation of proposal drafts, cover letters, and supplemental documentation.  Responsible for technical reviews, adherence to proposal requirements, internal processing, and quality of final product. 
•    Coordinates team reporting processes for all Energy & Climate donors.  Sets metrics and prepares reports relevant to progress, impact and stewardship.  Ensures reporting compliance on all grants.
•    Coordinates with UNF staff on all corporate, foundation, and other fundraising prospects and donors on behalf of the Department.
•    Develops strategies for building relationships and soliciting funding from current and new Energy & Climate donors and partners. 
•    Prepares briefing documents, agendas, presentation materials and background research for UN Foundation leadership prior to calls and visits with donor and prospect executives. 
•    Ensures that relevant donor and prospect data is captured, maintained, accurate, up-to-date records are maintained on communications with donor representatives and on grant activity.  Oversees support from Energy & Climate Administrative Assistant on data management.
•    Performs related duties as assigned.

Selection Criteria

•    At least two years of progressively responsible experience in fundraising.  Work on Energy & Climate, Environmental or International programs preferred.
•    Knowledge of the principles of institutional fundraising, and awareness of strategies for developing and increasing grant opportunities and advancing partnership plans with multiple components.
•    Experience writing and submitting grant proposals. 
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.  Database management experience – Raiser’s Edge strongly preferred. 
•    Proven ability to interact effectively with funders, senior managers, and program staff.  
•    Strong ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment.  
•    Ability to travel overnight and represent UN Foundation at meetings and conferences.
•    Ability to use discretion and independent judgment.
•    Excellent verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal skills. 
•    Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing. 
•    Ability to organize and prioritize work and manage one’s time effectively.
•    Sense of humor and flexibility in adjusting to changing priorities and assignments as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience.  Actual salary will depend on qualifications and anticipated contribution to the Foundation.

UNF pays 100% of medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance premiums for its employees and 75% of medical and vision for employees' dependents.

In addition, UNF provides 20 days of paid vacation per year, 12 paid holidays, three personal days per year, an immediately vested 150% matching 403(b) contribution up to a limit of six-percent of employee pay, Metro Pass benefits, and flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care.
