Are you passionate about our oceans? Can you lead a dynamic team in Data Analysis, Visualisation, and Impacts Research?

We’re currently looking for a Senior Data Science Manager, who can lead on delivering the MSC’s data science program in support of our global scientific research and delivering insights on program impacts.

In what is a new role for the MSC, the Senior Data Science Manager will be responsible for the enhancement and growth of the Science & Standards data science function. The team will be aligned to the mission of the MSC, and will encompass research insights to support the MSC’s standards and assurance system, develop efficient collaborative coding workflows, and will provide best practice advice on quantitative research techniques and open reproducible science.  You will also be creating links with relevant external research organisations for data intensive projects.

The Senior Data Science Manager will perform science-based research and provide analytics services by making best use of MSC certificate data, as well as creating links with relevant external research organizations for data intensive projects.  

In doing this, they will work in partnership with the Business Intelligence team (part of Corporate Services) who provide data management of all Business Information in the program. They will also support publication of scientific insights for MSC flagship publications and peer reviewed journals.

The MSC is a fast-paced environment, and the post holder must be adept at managing multiple priorities while delivering excellent results.  The post holder must also be an advocate of MSC’s mission and passionate about its core purpose and values.

We are looking for someone who is an experienced researcher in marine sciences with advanced data analyses, statistics, collaborative data science and computationally-intensive approaches.

You will have an understanding of fisheries assessments and management, and an interest in marine conservation issues.
