This is the time for action – we need to move at pace and reform our energy system – to deliver energy security, to tackle climate change and to protect our people. 

Reporting into the Senior Permission Manager (Offshore Delivery) this role will have responsibility spanning consents and lands activities across the marine and terrestrial envrionment.

As a Project Manager you will deliver high quality, economic consents, environmental assessment and lands service to maximise the likelihood of obtaining the required planning consents and land rights to facilitate the delivery of National Grid Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) projects to program and cost.

You will manage and help build a growing team of Consents Officer professionals who will move forward one of the offshore projects identified in the Holistic Network Design.

Our team largely work from home across bases all across the UK and therefore we are open to professionals in any regions. We continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.

We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

  • Proven capability in leading, managing and developing a high-performing professional-technical consents and lands team.
  • A proven track record in developing effective external networks and relationships conducive to the above, and to effectively supporting the development and delivery of construction projects.
  • The ability to develop effective business-wide networks and relationships conducive to the above, and to effectively supporting the development and delivery of construction projects.
  • Current, comprehensive knowledge and understanding of consenting, lands and associated disciplines.
  • An appreciation / understanding of Ofgem funding mechanisms and the way that National Grid delivers revenue under the regulatory framework

What You’ll Do

  • You’ll provide excellent technical consents and lands strategy guidance and support, reporting directly to the Project Director, Senior Management team, and disciplinary leads.
  • Ensure all relevant consents and lands activities and tasks, are delivered economically and efficiently; and that where possible and practicable, innovation and best/good practice is applied in order to reduce costs.
  • Make provision for all necessary Consents & Lands resources so they are procured in advance of need and the resources procured are technically capable and resilient with respect to their roles and responsibilities
  • You will build strong, collaborative, and enduring relationships with the Contractor and contractor community, to support the economic and efficient delivery of project consent activities and tasks, and the support of lands activities.
  • Create a holistic, collaborative, and high-performing Consents & Lands team, and provide effective and visible leadership and management of that team.
  • Effectively lead complex and challenging engagement with senior personnel across the relevant consenting and licensing authorities, with key stakeholders and consultees, and with landowners and their supporting land agencies.
  • Clarify and relay all Consents and Lands risks to Project program, together with proposed mitigations, to the Project Director and/or Senior Management team, immediately; and once agreed, effectively and successfully implement those mitigations.
  • Promote and ensure the enduring safety, health and well-being, and personal security, of the Consents and Lands teams.

What you’ll get

A competitive salary between £60,000 – £75,000 dependent on capability.

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 15% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
