The job will involve;
* Working with the carbon desk in London and teams in Johannesburg and throughout sub-Saharan Africa, establish and maintain a leading CDM franchise in sub-Saharan Africa by: - Raising the profile of the Bank’s CDM business both internally and externally - Building & maintaining strong client relationships (internal and external) - Establishing excellent relationships with governments and regulators, and being available to provide policy input as required - Originating, structuring and executing high-quality CDM deals using a range of financial tools including trading, project finance, corporate finance and structured commodity finance - Building and maintaining productive strategic partnerships - Over time, establishing CER distribution relationships in South Africa - Maintaining a high level of knowledge of up-to-date regulatory and political developments in sub-Saharan Africa relating to climate change - Achieving agreed turnover & profitability targets
* Building interest in key areas of the bank in conceiving and developing carbon-related retail products, and assist in their development and implementation * Contributing actively to the overall business and development of the bank’s global carbon business, particularly through working actively with the London trading desk and other parts of the business * Cross-sell other Bank products, including but not restricted to commodities trading * Performance against quarterly action plans * Pro-active self development
Requirements;
- Carbon and renewables/exposure to CDM – preferred - Trading and/or banking – strongly preferred - Business development - necessary - A winning attitude - Emotionally mature, remaining self-motivated, focused, determined & composed during pressurized periods - Strong team player with an entrepreneurial mindset who performs effectively both within the context of a team as well as independently - A passion for service-providing a high level of service and advice to a portfolio of clients. - Ability to develop & maintain co-operative working relationships with clients & support a strong client orientated culture - Strong intellectual ability and commercial acumen - Thinks holistically & globally so that both client service & profitability is ultimately achieved - Creative and innovative attitude. - Strong communication and presentation skills - Extensive contact base - Continually presents a respectable, professional image in line with the Corporate and Investment Banking image & culture - Ability to understand and work with various product areas in the bank including carbon trading; project finance; structured commodity finance; and corporate banking, to understand their roles and drivers, and to successfully mobilize them in structuring and selling/originating CDM business - Ability to build strong credibility within the bank, in particular with other product areas and senior management, and build internal interest in the business - The ability to make swift decisions in the pursuit of maximal profits/turnover for the Bank and the client. Understand and manage the risk associated with this role. - Ability to analyze and synthesize information from various sources in order to have a full understanding of both domestic and international policy and economics and what effect this has on carbon business and prices - Tertiary education with major in economics or engineering - Fluent English and at least one other language relevant to Africa
