Competitive salary

£4200 Car allowance or £3700 as cash via payroll each month (£308.33) plus Healthcare, 18% annual bonus potential with 27.5 days annual leave, plus bank holidays, increasing to 30 days after 10 years service

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Royal Mail as a Senior Carbon Analyst.

In this position you'll drive data delivery for Royal Mail's environmental strategy and decarbonisation programmes! Lead external data assurance processes, develop internal reporting systems, and provide essential support and analysis across functions and ESG team. Additionally, take charge of parcel visibility initiatives, engage with key customers on Steps to Zero, and offer support to the ESG team

About the role

•   You'll have key responsibility for delivering and analysing all environmental data relating to Royal Mail’s decarbonisation and waste strategies, working closely alongside Environment strategy workstream heads to prepare updates as required on strategy delivery and performance projections

•   Actively drive the development of Royal Mail’s internal reporting practices with regards to environmental data, to ensure continuous improvements to documentation and procedures in support of its wider business objectives, seeking opportunities wherever possible to bring processes in-house 

•   Ensure the delivery of Royal Mail’s year-end reporting cycle in relevant areas to enable the production of the ESG report, the ARA of our parent company IDS plc, our Low Carbon Transition Plan and annual assurance process with qualitative updates and technical environmental data, working closely alongside the Environment strategy workstream heads and Head of Reporting

•   Drive a framework for proactive engagement with our top 10-20 customers, working collaboratively with Sales teams and Account Managers to ensure meaningful/proactive engagements about our plans and feeding back into strategy, develop meaningful customer reports with improved data insights, and working with wider ESG team on broader customer engagements (ESG inbox) where these require environmental information and discussion

•   Support the delivery of parcel tracking and containerisation initiatives that enable standardized carbon reporting according to industry GLEC/ISO14083 standards in alignment with customer expectations

•   Support the delivery of content and data for key benchmarks and rating submissions on behalf of Royal Mail and IDS plc in coordination with Head of Reporting

•   Promote opportunities for engagement with key stakeholder groups (customers, investors, government and other postal operators) on environment strategy and performance matters as part of our sustainability communications to external and internal audiences.

•   Support the wider ESG team as required.

About You

•    Background in carbon accounting (2-3 years experience) with strong Excel and data analytical skills, with the ability to compare data sets, model outcomes, conduct forecast, use formulas to cleanse data, present findings


•    Able to identify and manage significant risks, make effective decisions based on the analysis of appropriate data


•    Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders including strategic customers, to translate environmental data requirements into required actions at an operational level


•    Proactive in approach, deals confidently with competing demands.


Desirable Experience
•    Experience of interfacing with senior management
•    Experience of interfacing with consultants, customers and contractors
•    Experience with external assurance processes ideal but not required
•    Experience collating quarterly and annual environmental data outputs for internal and external reporting requirements ideal but not required
•    Experience with using carbon accounting software platforms to transform emissions activity data ideal but not required
Experience in building and maintaining Net-Zero forecasts ideal but not required
