Description |
• Ability to skipper the Marine patrol vessels and deal with issued at sea.
• Plan sea going patrols and research trips in the area. • Oversee the safe launch and return of patrol vessels and crews. • Plan and execute Law enforcement patrols- including participation in regular patrols (foot, vehicle and by boat), in order to combat the poaching activities. • Manage the maintenance and erection of signage in the area. • Building relationships with coastal communities and MPA users. • Liaising with SAPS stations, NPA and Courts regarding criminal investigations. • Overseeing training and developing of staff skills and maintaining the level of staff skills. • Responsible for visitor management as well as the assimilation, interpretation and dissemination of information as tasked. • Issuing fines and providing evidence in court when necessary. • Implementation and administration of approved SANParks policies and procedures as stipulated e.g. disciplinary Code and procedures. • Maintenance of tools, equipment, vehicles, boats and infrastructure related to marine management. • General administration- ensure all necessary administration is completed, including time sheets, log books and reports within stipulated timeframes. • Monitoring and recording of resource management and transgression data. • Assist with rescue and emergency operations on sea and on land. Requirements: • National Diploma in Nature Conservation with 3 years experience in Marine Conservation and Law Enforcement OR a minimum of 5 years relevant practical experience (in the absence of a Diploma). • Formal training in Marine Protected Areas Management (MPA Management course). • Code 08 driver’s license. • A valid Restricted Marine Radio license. • A valid Skippers License. • A class 4 diver’s certificate would be ideal. • A level 111 first aid certificate. • Firearm competency in a wide range of firearms according to the Firearms Control Act, 2000. • Strong swimming ability and be physically fit (must be prepared to undergo a physical assessment). • A working knowledge of SANP policies and procedures, National parks Act, Marine Living Resources Act and Protected Areas Act. • EMI training attended will serve as an added advantage. • The ability to work in potentially unfavorable and dangerous conditions. • Computer literacy (with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially MS Word, Excel and Power-Point).
