Ducks Unlimited seeks four highly-motivated research technicians to assist with waterbird surveys from February 15, 2021 to April 16, 2021 – start and end dates may vary by a day or two. A successful applicant should expect to participate in a waterfowl and shorebird spring migration study in the Rainwater Basin of Nebraska (NE). Field operations will be based out of Wood River, NE. Major responsibilities will include properly identifying waterfowl and shorebirds to species and social groups. Successful applicants will be expected to work at least five days each week (i.e., 40 hours per week). Some weekend work may be required. Field work is physically and mentally demanding and takes place under challenging conditions. Therefore, only enthusiastic, dedicated individuals should apply. A strong interest in waterfowl and wetlands ecology and determination to get the job done is required. Experience identifying waterfowl and shorebirds, navigating using hard-copy maps, and operating 4WD vehicles are preferred skills. Successful applicants will be expected to work safely and effectively in a rural setting without direct supervision. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required. Research technicians for this position will be paid $11.25/hour with housing and work vehicles provided.
