We are currently seeking a Science Advisor for our international and diverse Science Team to play an essential role in engaging in the science policy interface including IPCC-related work. We are looking for someone familiar with the fundamentals of physical climate system science, climate impact and adaptation research and the modelling and analyses of climate mitigation responses, in particular. You will be expected to keep abreast of key developments in these fields and be able to coordinate and contribute scientific input. You will be working at the interface between our Science and Policy Teams as well as with stakeholders from the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs), analysing climate information that is relevant for policy needs and decision making. In addition, you are expected to contribute to monitoring, analysing, and communicating scientific matters of high policy relevance, like the feasibility of climate targets or implications of different methodological choices on greenhouse gas accounting.

 

Your Responsibilities

 

  • You will coordinate the Teams’ scientific engagement on CA’s science policy interface including IPCC processes and facilitate the exchange with our regional stakeholders.
  • You will conduct in-depth literature assessments and provide scientific support to regional stakeholders.
  • You will support the Team leadership in responding to urgent climate science issues relevant for the international climate policy discourse, if need be also on short notice.

 

Your Profile

 

You will ideally have the following qualifications and skills:

 

  • Preferably PhD in climate or related science. Master level with at least 3 years of relevant work experience would also be considered
  • A scientific track record in the field of mitigation pathway analysis and ability to utilise relevant models, including Integrated Assessment Models, economic and energy-system optimisation tools
  • Proficiency in processing, analysing, visualising and interpreting global or regional climate and emissions datasets, preferably using the python programming language
  • Knowledge of IPCC processes and other international activities under the UNFCCC would be an asset
  • Strong science communication skills
  • Project management and coordination would be an asset
  • Our working language is English, therefore excellent English writing and verbal skills are necessary. Basic German skills are welcome, but not required, other language skills are an asset
  • High degree of flexibility, ability to cope with periods of high work load, willingness and ability to travel
