Researcher - Biogas Production

Bioforsk – the Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research – is a national R&D institute under the Norwegian Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Bioforsk is a new institute constituted as a result of the merger of The Norwegian Centre for Soil and Environmental Research, The Norwegian Crop Research Institute and Norwegian Centre for Ecological Agriculture.

The main areas of competence are linked to food quality and safety, agriculture and rural development, environmental protection and natural resources management. Bioforsk has a staff of about 500, with an annual turnover of some e40 million. The R&D activities of Bioforsk are organized in seven research divisions, located in different regions of Norway.

Bioforsk encompasses a wide range of competence within natural sciences, with long traditions in field- and laboratory-based experimental studies. This includes also the development and application of various tools and models for management- and policy support linked to agriculture and environment.

Bioforsk participates in the newly established Bio-energy Centre at Ås (Norwegian Centre for Bio-energy Research), mainly through the efforts of biogas production by conversion of organic wastes and fertilizers. The increased market interest for our work has created the need to strengthen the pool of our research staff on this theme. The position is placed under the Department for Soil Quality which conducts R&D in biological waste treatment and recycling of waste resources. The Department also works with soil as growth medium, climate related processes in soil, and with occurrence, degradation and spreading of environmental contaminants and their effects in the terrestrial ecosystem. Applications are invited from established research scientists (preferably with PhD or similar) who can contribute to knowledge development in processes relating to biogas production. Among the priority areas are improved methane dividends from raw materials, reduced amount of liquids and solids from the biogas-processes, process optimization and added value of produced fertilizer.

The successful candidate must have an international network in this research field and be active in the dissemination of research results. It is expected that the selected candidate is well skilled in most aspects of project execution.

Required qualifications:

Highly competent / qualified in the field of biogas production, PhD / Dr.scient

Full competence in project leadership

Experience with contract research

International network in the relevant field

Resourcefulness and creativity in the development of project concepts, offers and applications in dialogue with target users, research colleagues and other partners
