Research Technician - Accelerated PV module testing

Technician position responsible for operating PV test lab, with special emphasis on environmental chamber operation and associated tests of PV modules. The position will be in the National Center for Photovoltaics (NCPV).
Quality
• Standard operating procedure development and maintenance, safety and building compliance, continuous improvement.

Operations and Maintenance
• Scheduling, interfacing with and hosting contractors, tool ownership/status reporting, inventory control, purchasing, tool evaluation and repair, parts maintenance (diagnostics, service requests, ordering) for environmental chambers and other test equipment, water quality/filter maintenance. 

Technical
• Tool development (electrical, mechanical, plumbing), troubleshooting, search and evaluation of tools to meet research and other requirements. 

Testing
• IEC 61215/61646/61730-2 testing for PV modules (insulation, leakage current, mechanical loading, etc), chamber loading, test rack building/modifications, ownership and reporting on samples tested, interfacing with outside vendors, chamber programming/launch/monitoring/shutdown, test coupon fabrication, failure analysis (sample extraction, preparation, imaging). 
• Follow all Laboratory policies and procedures, including Environmental, Safety, Health and Quality requirements to ensure and maintain a safe working environment.
High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 8 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Extensive knowledge in specialized focused support functions. A comprehensive acquaintance with and understanding of both general and detailed aspects of technical support activities, and their practical application to a wide variety of problems and situations specific to the discipline or field supported.

Strong research techniques and practices. Strong communication, interpersonal, project management and customer relations skills.
• Environmental chamber or heating and refrigeration equipment experience, PID controller programming.
• Laboratory work experience.
• LabVIEW programming.
• Analog circuit design and electronics.
• Teamwork and ability to communicate within the team.
• High voltage testing and measurement.
• Optical equipment design and measurement.
• Experience with described responsibilities.
• Aptitude for technical problem solving. 
• Computer skills for handling data. 
• More experienced or less experienced candidates will also be considered.
