You will work with state-of-the-art research and method development for analysis of climate scenarios and observational data. This work involves the development and application of methods for climate scenario analysis. The focus of this role will be describing the spread and characteristics of climate scenario ensembles using multivariate statistical methods, including cluster analysis. The work will be conducted mainly within the Mistra-SWECIA (http://www.mistra-swecia.se/en) research programme and also in the framework of international projects.
Your profile
You should have a university degree in meteorology or a closely related science/engineering subject area with good knowledge of relevant statistical methods. As an alternative, you should have a university degree in mathematical statistics together with documented experience of working with climate data and climate scenarios. It is expected that the successful candidate will have a doctoral degree, preferably with postdoc experience, but exceptionally qualified candidates without a PhD will also be considered.
Good programming skills in Python and R are required. Knowledge in Octave/Matlab, IDL and CDO is desirable. Experience of working with Linux and good skills in handling large amounts of data in NetCDF format would also be advantageous.
We believe that you are a structured person with problem solving analytical skills. You are full of initiative and find it easy to work both individually and in groups. Good knowledge in spoken and written English is required, along with a willingness to learn Swedish.
The contract is limited to 2 years and the position will be based at the SMHI headquarters in Norrköping.
