Description

SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, Marine Environmental Technology is looking for a research scientist within the field of Environmental Modelling

SINTEF Materials and Chemistry, Division of Marine Environmental Technology works on problems related to environmental issues within the offshore oil and gas industry. The division employs some 45 staff members with backgrounds in chemistry, biology, oceanography, and numerical modelling. Our contract market is growing. We have large and exciting research projects related to the oil industry and public requirements both on a national and international level.

You will be part of a research team, including members from SINTEF and frequently also from industry. The client’s needs should always be in focus. It is especially important to deliver the expected quality at the agreed time and price. At the same time we must maintain a basic understanding and development of our competence and knowledge.

The division has modern and well-equipped premises in the harbour area of Trondheim. SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture and NTNU have premises in the same building.

Women are encouraged to apply, since SINTEF is an equal opportunity company and wishes to have the wide range of aspects, experience and views required for a high-tech company such as ours.

We can offer:

·         A good working environment

·         Salary based on qualifications

·         Flexible working hours

·         Kindergarten for children of employees

·         Good pension- and insurance arrangements

·         Challenging and diverse responsibilities

Responsibilities and qualifications:

The Environmental Modelling group includes 4 senior research scientists, 3 research scientists, 1 senior engineer and 1 technical consultant. The group is occupied with both maintenance of existing models and design and development of new modelling tools. Models developed by the group are today used by oil companies and authorities all over the world and we seek to consolidate and strengthen our market in this area.

We want to employ a research scientist with a Master (MSc) or PhD to work within development and use of environmentally related mathematical models. Relevant problems to be addressed are:

  • Drift, spread and transformation processes of releases to the marine environment;
  • Calculation of effects of marine releases on vulnerable biological resources (environmental risk);
  • Further development of environmentally related models based on available data from experiments (field trials and laboratory experiments);
  • Participation in designing and carrying out laboratory and field tests with an eye towards scaling and transferability of results to mathematical models.

The work will be carried out in close co-operation with other researchers and program developers in the numerical modelling group, and with researchers from other groups with extensive experience in environmental chemistry, oil spill contingency and biology.

We want to employ a person with initiative, who is flexible, extroverted and who has the required technical/professional competence to work both independently and in integrated project groups. We are looking for a co-worker with substantial background from areas like chemical engineering, fluid dynamics and mathematical modelling, and with an interest in using these skills for state-of-the-art environmental analyses.

Please direct technical questions about the position to Research Manager Mark Reed ( mark.reed@sintef.no ), tel +4798243471.

Please send your application with references, CV, and certificates by e-mail to Personnel Consultant Anne Larsen, e-mail: anne.larsen@sintef.no .
