We are seeking an experienced researcher to support the use of chemical transport models in relation with numerical air quality predictions in urban areas. In addition the candidate is expected to contribute to other activities of the department research involving dispersion model development, urban scale assessment, application and coupling with meteorological models, data assimilation and probabilistic modelling.
The applicant is expected to:
- Contribute to the departments research on the development of chemical transport models for air quality applications in urban areas
- Develop methods for off- line and on-line coupling with numerical weather prediction models
- Disseminate research results, including peer review publishing
- Participate in national and international projects
- Lead project acquisition and new projects on the department’s research area
The following requirements to the applicant are essential:
- Ph.D or equivalent in a relevant field (meteorology, physics, atmospheric chemistry, environmental sciences)
- Experience in use and interpretation of air quality and meteorological models Proven experience with both independent and team based research
- Good knowledge of English, both oral and written
- Proven experience with publication of scientific research in peer reviewed journals.
Other preferred qualities of the applicant:
- Experience in modelling with FORTRAN and with parallel computing
- Good understanding of script languages and use of LINUX and WINDOWS
- Knowledge of the WRF-Chem system
- Knowledge of probabilistic modelling and data assimilation
We seek candidates with good communicating skills and willingness to take responsibility. English is the working language and knowledge of Norwegian is an additional advantage. We have extensive collaboration with national and international research institutes and universities, so travel activities are to be expected as part of the work.
