The U.S. Green Building Council Research program is currently seeking a summer associate who will gain experience in compiling, analyzing, and sharing data. The Research Program Summer Associate will contribute to the development and demonstration of analytical applications within the Green Building Information Gateway. The summer associate will work closely with Research Program staff to compile data on green building projects, create and share information using Geographic Information System technology, and contribute to a series of demonstration GBIG Analyst reports.
The summer associate also will have a unique opportunity to contribute to a state-of-the-art platform for data sharing and the creation of novel analytical products and services. The summer associate will have specific responsibility for the compilation and analysis of data on green building from USGBC partners, including Enterprise Green Communities, Green Star, Three Star, and other LEED-based programs around the world. This work will provide the summer associate with perspectives on green building theory and practice from around the world and an understanding of advanced information technologies for benchmarking and analysis
Summer Associate Details Include
- Work under the direct supervision the Green Building Information Gateway project manager. The summer associate will work closely with Research Program, LEED, and IT staff and consultants
- Fast-paced, dynamic working environment
- Search for and compile information on third-party certified green building projects from around the world
- Use GIS-based tools (ArcGIS and ArcServer) to create and share web-based map services within the GBIG.org platform
- Analyze patterns of achievement within and between rating systems
- Work with professional consultants to contribute this information to green building analyst reports for release at Greenbuild 2011
Education and Training Requirements/Preferences
- Minimum education requirements are current enrollment in undergraduate program in design, information technology, quantitative geography, computer science, engineering, environmental science, or equivalent field of study
- Training with Geographic Information Systems, including ArcGIS required
- Training in quantitative analysis and technical writing
Experience Requirements
- Demonstrated experience applying Geographic Information Systems (classroom experience may be acceptable) preferred
- Experience with user interface design, software development, quantitative data analysis, technical writing preferred
Other Required Skills and Qualifications
- Creativity, enthusiasm, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team
