Research Manager

1. MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

* To play a key role in researching priority campaign issues and to help implement these as part of WSPA's strategy to raise the standard of animal welfare worldwide.

2. POSITION IN ORGANISATION
* Reporting to the Chief Scientific Adviser.
* Works closely with all members of the Programmes Department, and relevant staff worldwide
* Liaises with external agencies and WSPA's scientific and advisory panels

3. SCOPE OF JOB
* Carry out research projects
* Research in support of planned campaigns and projects
* Obtain and maintain resources (library, web-based etc.)
* Production of research resources for campaigns and projects
* Monitoring trade press
* Help to implement campaigns and projects
* Representation of WSPA at meetings
* Obtaining and maintaining resources (library, web based, etc.)

4. DIMENSIONS & LIMITS OF AUTHORITY
* Responsible for researching accurate and up-to-date information internally
* Collaborates with external agencies, including in the United Nations
* Supervision of other staff as directed by Chief Scientific Adviser

5. QUALIFICATIONS
* Educated to degree level or equivalent

6. EXPERIENCE
* Recent experience of working in the field of animal welfare (preferred)
* Experience in working with intergovernmental organisations (preferred)
* Recent experience of working in a research-related post (not necessarily in animal welfare) (essential)
* Proven ability to conduct accurate research (essential)
* Good communications skills - especially written and oral (essential)
