Description

CSIRO Energy Technology is expanding the scope of its research in solar thermal energy conversion and storage and other renewable applications from its present high temperature SolarGas focus to a broader suite of technologies that will aid the long term cost competitiveness of solar technologies for large and small scale applications.

There is a need to address a range of pressing energy-related issues, such as: greenhouse gas emissions imperatives, moves towards a hydrogen fuels-system, and greater harnessing of renewable energy sources.

We seek a talented research leader in solar thermal technologies who will strengthen existing research programs through input of their expert knowledge in a solar related field and develop new research initiatives to support an expanded solar energy research portfolio.

In this context you will:

  • Expand a research program that addresses the major scientific issues associated with cost effective design and development of high temperature solar thermal applications.
  • Establish a significant scientific profile for the research area through the development of scientific links with key researchers and research agencies, nationally and internationally.
  • Consolidate and further develop new research directions in solar reactor design, construction and modelling, heat management, energy conversion to electric power, energy storage media and efficiency management, modelling of thermal cycles, innovative use of materials and novel approaches to the use of science in furthering low cost, large scale emissions reduction from solar technologies.
  • Ensure timely delivery of research project objectives and completion of agreed work programs.
  • Interact and collaborate across CSIRO and the CSIRO Flagship program in order to advance solar thermal and renewables research within CSIRO.
  • Interact with industry and the university sector to forge strong links in the project area and work with the Theme Leader in the development of new business and client opportunities.
  • Give clear and professional presentations within the scientific community and industry via regular reports and scientific publications on research outcomes.
  • Adhere to CSIRO requirements for information security, OHS&E and EEO in accordance with the CSIRO Code of Conduct.
