The role

SEI is recruiting a highly motivated Research Fellow with a strong research background in finance and/or economics, preferably with a good understanding of sustainability, development, and climate change. The successful candidate will contribute to developing and executing research on sustainable finance within the newly started Stockholm Sustainable Finance Centre. The Stockholm Sustainable Finance Centre aims to accelerate and promote the shift in capital investments required to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate targets. The Centre is a unique collaboration between Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). This brings together a leading research university in financial markets and economics, and a highly ranked institute working on environmental impact and broader sustainable development issues. The successful candidate will be employed at SEI but fully integrated into the collaboration with SSE and other SSFC partners. The position may also involve work with related SEI projects such as SEI’s Global Finance Initiative or SEI’s initiative on fossil fuels and climate change.

Main responsibilities

  • Together with the SSFC team, identify and design research projects on sustainable finance that advance the core mission of the SSFC. In particular, the center will engage in research aiming to scale up the capital available in developing countries to achieve the SDGs and the capital available to meet the Paris targets in both developed and developing country contexts
  • Participate in sustainable finance networks domestically and internationally, presenting SSFC research, communicating the SSFC’s mandate and activities, and representing the SSFC
  • Combine qualitative with quantitative research methods to generate innovative and rigorous research findings pertaining to sustainable finance
  • Contribute to, and over time, lead the development of proposals in the field of sustainable finance
  • Help to communicate insights from our work to a range of audiences, with support from SEI’s communications team

Who you are

  • Solid knowledge of financial markets
  • Strong motivation for developing innovative approaches to helping the finance sector to drive the transition to sustainability globally
  • Knowledge of development, sustainability, and climate change is an advantage
  • Good understanding of finance challenges in low-income countries is an advantage
