Description |
A new report has stressed the need for faster improvements to building insulationin the UK, as well as the uptake of renewable heat systems. Findings by the Committee on Climate Change's third Annual Report reveal that UK emissions increased three per cent in 2010, concluding that in order to meet carbon budgets, emissions reduction efforts must be sped up. However, it also found that efforts to improve the energy efficiency of new cars and boilers were good, while progress to generate more renewable power is also on track. The committee also stressed the point that future electricity market reform and theGreen Deal will be crucial at driving carbon emission reductions. Commenting on the report, energy secretary Chris Huhne said: "The coalition's once-in-a-generation reforms of the electricity market, the Green Deal and the Green Investment Bank show we're serious about making the long-term structural changes that are vital to cut emissions and keep the lights on."
